Dogs
Welcome to Mid-Michigan adopt-a-pet! We are glad you found your way here!

NOTICE! The MSU Spay/Neuter Clinic scheduled for Aug. at CMU is canceled.

The shelter is open while being renovated, the animals are still there and available for adoption. Also they would like to let the dog walkers know to come back.

Please stop in to meet all of our furry friends and fall in love with one.

Due to renovations at the shelter, I am unable to give kennel numbers for the dogs.

~~~
Please help by adopting! Our shelter is very full again!
Many of the dogs that are available are owner surrenders. These dogs are used to being in homes and will make great companions! Give an older dog a new lease on life!
Please adopt a dog...
~it matters to the one you save~
Dogs at the Isabella County Animal Control Shelter
1105 S. Isabella Rd. Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858
Hours: Mon - Fri 7:30 am to 5:45 pm
All animals will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
All dogs are $140. This includes license($6), rabies vaccine($10), county fee($15), HATS fee for medical charges that include spay/neuter, heartworm test and vaccinations($109).
Puppies(under 14 weeks) are $134, same charges apply except license and rabies vacc. They will also be spayed or neutered.
We have started Microchipping some dogs.  Those that are microchipped are an extra donation of $20.00
It really is a good deal. Try to get all that done for that price. Keep in mind there are no guarantees. HATS works very hard to care for and vaccinate dogs but there may be health issues with a dog the shelter has no way of knowing about. The risk is yours. I say it's worth it.
There may be more dogs than these photos show
due to animals in quarantine or arriving during
 the week. There also may be less due to
 adoption and euthenizing. I try to update weekly.
 Thanks for looking!
(note: if you want to adopt a pet from the Isabella County Animal Shelter, please visit the shelter as soon as possible. Euthenizing is done when space requires, therefore tomorrow may be too late. They do try to keep them as long as possible but their time is limited.) Please call the shelter for verification if you are driving any distance.
He Created You
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. I have done something," He replied. "I created you." ~The Animals' Savior Copyright Jim Willis 1999
Tips for you
1.never feel sorry or spoil  your dog
because he was homeless and in the shelter
2.before you enter your house with your new dog,
take him or her for a long walk
so the dog can bond with you
3.watch the dog whisperer on
national geographic channel Fridays at 8pm
4. don't give your dog onions or grapes (raisins too)
they are toxic to dogs, chocolate is bad for dogs too
Here in this house.........................
I will never know the loneliness I hear
in the barks of the other dogs 'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake
my world will not have changed.
I will never know hunger,
or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.
I will not shiver in the cold,
or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness,
and be allowed to smell
all that can reach my nose.
My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.
Here in this house...
There will be an effort to communicate with me
on my level.
I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand,
I can enjoy the warmth of the words.
I will be given a name
so that I may know who I am among many.
My name will be used in joy,
and I will love the sound of it!
Here in this house...
I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.
I will never be used
to improve peoples' images of themselves.
I will be loved because I am who I am,
not someone's idea of who I should be.
I will never suffer for someone's anger,
impatience, or stupidity.
I will be taught all the things I need
to know to be loved by all.
If I do not learn my lessons well,
they will look to my teacher for blame.
Here in this house...
I can trust arms that hold, hands that
touch...knowing that, no matter what
they do, they do it for the good of me.
If I am ill, I will be doctored.
If scared, I will be calmed.
If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered
beautiful and thought to be of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old,
too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough.
My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes,
be as kind and as fair as dogs.
Here in this house...
I will belong.
I will be home.
If you are thinking about adopting a dog, it is a good idea to bring any other dogs that will live with the dog to the shelter beforehand to make sure they get along.  Also, bring any children that will be around the dog to make sure the dog will behave properly around them.  This will prevent a dog from having to be returned for not working out in his new family.
if you need more info or adoption date
The shelter is in need of collars and leashes. Often when a dog gets adopted, a collar and leash goes too. They could also use pet carriers and crates of any size, so animals can be taken to vet. If you have one you aren't using anymore why not donate it shelter? Everyone would be so grateful!
